Privacy policy

The developer collects no data. Startiles has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no servers of its own. Everything you create stays in your browser.

• Your speed dials are ordinary browser bookmarks (in the folder Startiles Speed Dial or in the bookmarks folder you choose).
• Settings, themes, thumbnail choices, images you upload, page screenshots and the icon cache are kept in the extension storage of your browser (chrome.storage.local).
• Export creates a JSON file on your computer. Nothing is uploaded.

Removing the extension deletes its storage. Your bookmarks stay unless you delete them.

• bookmarks: the dials are bookmarks.
• storage, unlimitedStorage: settings, thumbnails, screenshots, cache.
• favicon: the browser's own favicon cache.
• history: address suggestions in the Add dialog. History is read locally and is never stored by the extension or sent anywhere.
• tabs and access to all sites: to take a screenshot of a page for tiles set to Pageview (only tiles you set to Pageview, at most every 6 hours), to read the head of a page to find the best icon and preview image, and to request search suggestions.

Startiles makes these requests directly from your browser. They go to third parties, not to the developer, and can be switched off in the settings:

• Search suggestions (can be switched off): while you type in the search field, the text is sent to the public suggestion endpoint of the search engine you selected (for example Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yandex, Brave, Ecosia, Yahoo or Startpage). It is subject to that engine's privacy policy. The Bookmarks engine sends nothing.
• Icons and previews (can be switched off with Try to fetch hi-res icons & previews): the address of a bookmarked site is requested from that site to read its icons and preview image, and site addresses are sent to icon services (Google favicon service, DuckDuckGo icons).
• Search engine icons are loaded from the icon services above.

No other requests are made. There is no remote code: all code is in the extension package.

The developer has no access to your data, so nothing is shared or sold. Startiles is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children.
